From Dreamers left in limbo to families stuck in a legal process designed to fail, our immigration system is broken. I’m Jonathan Wagoner, and I’m running for Congress to deliver real reform: secure borders, legal pathways, and a citizenship process that’s fair, affordable, and actually works.
Fixing a Broken Immigration System
America’s immigration system is broken and Ventura County sees the effects every day. From workers and friends we rely on, to families living in fear of separation, to Dreamers who’ve spent their entire lives here but still have no path to citizenship, Washington has failed to lead.
Instead of solving problems, politicians argue. Instead of reform, we get gridlock. It’s time to bring common sense, compassion, and real leadership back to the conversation.
Why It Matters
I grew up in Oxnard, Some of my closest friends growing up were impacted by their immigration status not because they lacked drive, talent, or heart, but because the system was stacked against them. I watched them work hard, follow the rules, and dream big, only to face constant uncertainty.
This isn’t about parties. It’s about people:
- Farmworkers who keep Ventura County’s agriculture thriving.
- Nurses and essential workers who care for our communities.
- Students and friends who grew up here, speak English, pay taxes—and still live in fear of being deported.
- Families already living here legally, trying to do everything the right way only to be met with a system so complex and expensive, it’s practically designed for them to fail.
Citizenship shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the wealthy or the well-connected. The process needs to be clear, fair, and accessible for the people who are doing their part and just want a real shot at the American Dream.
My Plan of Action in Congress
I will fight to finally bring immigration reform to the finish line—with real solutions that balance security, fairness, and compassion:
- Pass the Dreamers Act
No more limbo. I’ll fight to finally pass permanent protections and a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and Dreamers—young people who’ve earned their place in this country. - Modernize Legal Pathways for Workers
Simplify visa systems for industries like agriculture, healthcare, and construction. - Fix the Legal Immigration Process
I’ll fight to streamline and modernize the legal citizenship process—cutting out unnecessary red tape and reducing the burden on families who are already here and trying to do it the right way. No one should have to pay thousands in legal fees or wait years just to become a citizen. - Support Family Unity and Community Stability
Prioritize keeping families together, eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, and focus enforcement on real threats not hardworking people contributing to our economy.
